St. Rocco Procession

The procession took place at the Divine Savior Church, 7740 W. Montrose, Norridge, IL, on August 2, 1998. The procession started out from the church grounds with the attendees lining up.

The procession took place after the celebration of the Holy Mass. About 280 people attended the celebration on a warm, August day. The procession moved through the streets adjacent to the church.

Preceded by the Saint are members of the old St. Rocco Fraternity (Valenzano's emigrants) and the president of A.S.R.V. Frank De Frenza in the function of community representative.

The Saint was carried in the traditional fashion, by four bearers on their shoulders. Also visible in the background is the Sicilian Band of Chicago playing traditional music.

The procession continued well articulated with the help of Gemma De Frenza, Consiglia Uva, Carmela Lollino, Chiara Caringella, Rosa Naccarata, and Lora Di Vietro.

The procession returned to the church after the symbolic tour of the town.

Frank De Frenza steps in to offer the keys of the town to the Saint. St. Rocco is the Patron Saint of Valenzano and this key offering symbolizes putting the town in the care under the protection of the Saint.

The Sicilian band played the last piece outdoor in front of the Saint.

Refreshments and snacks were served after the procession. Served were focaccia, peanuts, lupinis and pop; followed by pasties and coffee at the end.

The Sicilian Band provided entertainment indoor at the refreshment and snacks reunion offered after the procession.
