The Living Manger has become ARPA's best known tradition, a presentation at a special Christmas Mass at St. Ferdinand Church, Mason and Barry avenues, Chicago. Parishoners in costume recreate Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem on the night of Jesus' birth.

The manger (presepio) is commonly known as the "nativity scene." The presepio is an old Italian tradition, especially in Puglia; it is comparable to the Christmas tree in the United States. Living manger (presepio vivente) utilizes actors in place of statues to recreate and experience the Nativity.
Live Manger, ARPA 1998 Living mangers will typically include Joseph, Mary, Jesus, some angels, zampognari, and shepherds.
